Green Mango Juice Recipe
Green mango juice, also known as aam panna in India, is a refreshing summer beverage made from raw (unripe) mangoes. It has a tangy, sweet, and slightly spicy flavor, perfect for cooling the body and beating the heat. Rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants, green mango juice not only quenches thirst but also aids digestion and prevents heatstroke.
Ingredients Needed:
2 large green mangoes (raw and firm)
4 tablespoons sugar or jaggery (adjust to taste)
1/2 teaspoon black salt
1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon regular salt
A few fresh mint leaves (optional)
3 to 4 cups cold water
Ice cubes (optional)
Preparation Method:
Step 1: Boiling or Roasting Mangoes
You can either boil or roast the green mangoes depending on your preferred flavor.
Boiling Method:
Wash the mangoes thoroughly and place them in a pot with enough water.
Boil them for 10-15 minutes or until they become soft and the skin starts wrinkling.
Let them cool before peeling.
Roasting Method (for smoky flavor):
Roast the whole mangoes over an open flame or in an oven until the skin is charred and the mango becomes soft inside.
Let them cool, then peel and extract the pulp.
Step 2: Extracting Pulp
Once cooled, peel the skin and remove the seed.
Scoop out the soft pulp using a spoon and discard the seed.
Step 3: Blending the Juice
Add the mango pulp to a blender.
Add sugar or jaggery, black salt, roasted cumin powder, regular salt, and a few mint leaves (optional).
Pour in about 1 cup of water and blend until smooth.
Step 4: Diluting and Serving
Pour the mixture into a jug. Add 2-3 more cups of cold water depending on how thick or thin you want the juice.
Stir well.
Serve chilled with ice cubes and garnish with mint leaves or a slice of lemon, if desired.
Tips:
Adjust the sugar or jaggery according to the sourness of the mango.
You can store the thick mango concentrate in the fridge for up to a week and dilute as needed.
Adding a pinch of black pepper can enhance flavor and aid digestion.
Health Benefits:
Cooling Effect: Perfect for hot summers, preventing dehydration and heatstroke.
Rich in Nutrients: High in Vitamin C, iron, and antioxidants.
Digestive Aid: The spices used (like cumin and black salt) are known to support digestion.
Boosts Immunity: Raw mango contains essential vitamins and minerals that help strengthen immunity.
Conclusion:
Green mango juice is more than just a thirst-quencher—it’s a traditional remedy that combines nutrition and taste. Whether you enjoy it plain or spiced, chilled green mango juice is a delightful and healthy drink everyone can enjoy during the summer months.
